Sausage Burger

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Servings: 4 burgers
Ingredients:
For the patties:
  • 1 lb (450g) linguiça sausage, casings removed
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For assembly:
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Lettuce leaves
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Ketchup (optional)
Instructions:
  1. In a bowl, combine the linguiça meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to firm up.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 8-10 minutes until caramelized. Set aside.
  4. Preheat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the sausage patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F/71°C).
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
  6. Toast the hamburger buns lightly.
  7. Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom bun, add lettuce, tomato slices, the cheesy sausage patty, caramelized onions, and top with the upper bun.
  8. Serve immediately while hot. Enjoy!
Tips:
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or chimichurri to the patty mixture
  • You can substitute linguiça with chorizo or Italian sausage if unavailable
  • Grill the patties outdoors for authentic smoky flavor
