Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4 burgers
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef (sirloin or flank steak blend)
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 sesame hamburger buns
- Cheddar cheese slices (optional)
- Olive oil for grilling
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Pickles
- Seasoned mayonnaise, ketchup, and barbecue sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, red onion, garlic, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands without overworking the meat to keep the burgers tender.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball, then flatten into patties about 2 cm thick. Press the center lightly with your finger to create a small indentation, which helps prevent the burgers from puffing up during cooking.
- Refrigerate the patties for 15 minutes to help them firm up.
- Heat a skillet or grill over high heat and lightly grease with olive oil. Cook the burgers for about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer until they reach your preferred doneness. During the last minute of cooking, add cheddar cheese slices if desired and allow them to melt.
- Lightly toast the hamburger buns in the skillet or on the grill.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading seasoned mayonnaise on the bottom bun. Add lettuce, tomato slices, the cooked burger patty, pickles, and your favorite sauces. Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.
