Homemade Grilled Burgers

Cook Time: 15 minutes
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4 burgers

Ingredients

  • 800 g ground beef (preferably a blend with some fat)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Butter or olive oil for the buns

Optional Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat the charcoal grill until the coals are very hot and covered with white ash.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix gently without overworking the meat.
  3. Divide the meat into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties about 2 cm thick. Press a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  4. Place the burgers on the grill over direct heat. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, depending on your preferred doneness.
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each burger and allow it to melt.
  6. Lightly butter the burger buns and toast them on the grill until golden.
  7. For the optional sauce, mix mayonnaise, garlic, and mustard in a small bowl.
  8. Assemble the burgers with sauce, lettuce, tomato, onions, and the grilled patties.
  9. Serve immediately with fries or grilled vegetables.
